Dad's Simple Tasty Oatmeal

This is a favorite breakfast recipe of Dad's that he recently taught me how to make. If you like it can be garnished with blueberries, raisins, or apples. Serves 14.

8 cups of water
8 cups of oats
4 cups of milk
1 cup brown sugar

Bring water to a boil in a large pan. While stirring water, add oats one cup at a time. Stir until combined and mixture is somewhat thick. Add milk and stir. Stir in sugar and serve.

Our Dad really likes oatmeal, as do a lot of my siblings! We'll have to try this!

I've made something almost identical to this--minus the milk. I'm sure the milk adds a nice creamy taste though. I'll have to try it next time we make oatmeal.

Another idea we've tried is to sauté apples and fold them into the oatmeal. It's heavenly! :)

Sounds good Drew! Your Dad was telling us about it at church... you can tell he has it memorized!

Oh, thank you. Sometimes just figuring out how much of everything, quadrupled from the recipe on the oatmeal container is enough to stop me from making it in the morning (if I'm not fully awake yet!)
We will definitely try this one out...thanks for posting it.
Karisse, I like the idea of the sauteed apples too. That almost makes it like apple cobbler then.
Thanks, everyone, for the great posts.
