Romance Bars

-
Hello everyone! How are all the busy little cooks? I haven't written in for awhile, but was requested to share this recipe recently and thought maybe you all would enjoy it as well.
Being quite sweet and rich, one only needs a small square (maybe... sometimes... a couple of small squares).
Admittedly, it's a little more complicated to make than you average "batch of cookies" since you can't just throw everything into a bowl, but it's not difficult in the least.
I have no idea where the name came from... perhaps because you will "fall in love" with the flaky crust and delicious layered toppings?.?. Hmm-mmm.
At any rate, hope you enjoy these to their fullest!

Romance Bars

1 cup margarine or butter
2 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. salt

2 eggs
1 1/2 cups brown sugar

1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup coconut
1 cups crushed pecans
2 TBSP. flour
3/4 tsp. baking powder

Frosting:
3 cups powdered sugar
1 (8 oz) cream cheese
Crushed pecans

Crust: Blend first 4 ingredients with pastry blender. Press into rimmed cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
Next layer: Beat eggs until light. Add brown sugar, vanilla, baking powder, and flour then stir well. Fold in coconut and crushed pecans. Spread mix over crust. Bake another 20 minutes or until rich gold color (do not over bake).
Frosting: Combine powdered sugar and cream cheese and beat until smooth. Spread on completely cool bars and sprinkle lightly with crushed pecans.
Enjoy room temp. or refrigerated!

Glad you like them and yes this is what I made the other night at the get-together! ;-)

I know, the tacos were so good that one almost didn't even need dessert. Thank you all again, for everything!

Uhhh...Kaity???? What are we supposed to do with the "extra 2 Tbsp" of flour???

The flour gets added to the eggs, along with the borwn sugar and other ingredients. :-D Sorry for the confusion of that!
